DIGITAL AND TECHNOLOGY-BASED INITIATIVES
DRDC’s Athena 2.0: Making R&D Efficient
Background

Deepak Research and Development Centre (DRDC) recently launched Athena 2.0, an advanced and secure web platform, evolving from its predecessor, Athena 1.0. This centralized system is revolutionizing DRDC’s research and development activities. Athena 2.0 demonstrates DRDC’s commitment to leveraging technology for improved data management, project oversight, and continuous innovation in scientific research.

Key Features and Capabilities
  • User-Friendly Interface: Provides User-Friendly features and analytics, including online laboratory notebooks, presentation tools, report preparation, and project updates, all adhering to ALCOA++ principles
  • Time and Data Management: Ensures efficient time management, data integrity, reliability, and seamless data extraction and compilation
  • Streamlined Reporting: Enables online uploading of fortnightly reports which improves review processes, eliminates orphan data points and create a complete audit trail
  • Comprehensive Project Oversight: Provides one-stop platform for granular overview of project activities, from idea generation to commercialization, boosting result-oriented project management
  • Knowledge Preservation: Stores data in a structured, searchable format, preventing knowledge loss and maintain robust control of information flow
Process Optimization and Development in FY 2024-25

We revolutionize our processes throughout the optimization and development phases using advanced and integrated technologies:

  • We use advanced safety control systems such as Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC), reaction calorimetry (RC), and accelerating rate calorimetry (ARC)
  • For optimizing processes and advanced control in vapour phase reactions, we employ continuous stirred tank reactors (CSTRs), high-pressure vessels, and parallel reactor systems
  • In large-scale production environment, our operational efficiency and control is driven by a SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) based distributed control system (DCS)
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)

SCADA, or Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, an advanced control system architecture uses computers, networked data communications, and intuitive graphical user interfaces (GUIs) to monitor and control complex industrial processes. The integration of SCADA allows for the upload of data, fostering future communication and collaboration.

Five-Star Safety Interlock for Process Control
